Need help with a little paper mache project...making argonaths

A few people on my floor have stuff in front of their door. One room has a couple lawn flamingos, another room has a gnome and something else, I forget. Over spring break I am going to make this.

😀

I want to make them a little over 6 feet tall so people can walk under the arms (which will project into the hall) easily. My current plan is to make a T frame out of wood and then drape chicken wire over it. Paper mache goes over the chicken wire. Then I'll use strips of cardboard or something and more paper mache to make the folds in the robes, heads, swords, etc.

Anybody done something like this? Any tips are appreciated!

i made a paper mache model of mass that was supposed to be the shape of virginia when i was in the 3rd grade. after i was all done, i realized i made it backwards (mirror image) 😱

I'm staying around here to

1) Take 4 or 5 guitar lessons with a guy since I don't have a lot of time when school is going
2) See friends that are coming back here
3) Work on my evil research paper
4) Save money

Besides, I met a guy from the city newspaper at a scholarship dinner today and he said he'd give me all the free paper I wanted, so I figure why not. 😀

Plus the looks on people's faces when they come back from wherever they went and see two of these babies in the hall will be priceless.

use the cardboard under the chickenwire or just form the wire to the shape you want the folds and all to be.

But won't the chicken wire need the wooden frame too? Cardboard seems kind of floppy to be a frame for the chickenwire.

1) paper for argonaths - $0
2) chicken wire - $20 (?)
3) water and paste - $10

4) the realization that people on your floor will have when they saw what you wasted your Spring Break on - priceless
