OK...here is the rig:
AMD Opteron 146
MSI Neo2 Platinum mobo
2gb PC3500 ram
320gb HDD
ATI X800XT AIW video card
Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-1600 ATSC/ClearQAM/NTSC TV Tuner PCI w/Remote
I'm using the onboard sound because it has an included optical out.
I do have a nice Audigy card available to use if ya'll think it would help.
Here are the television specs:
Product Description: Hitachi UltraVision UDX Series 53UDX10B - 53 in Rear projection TV
Product Type: Rear projection TV
Diagonal Size: 53 in
Dimensions (WxDxH): 46 in x 25.3 in x 51.6 in
Digital Television Certification: HDTV monitor
Display Format: 1080i
Technology: Projection - CRT - Real Flat
Image Aspect Ratio: 4:3
I do have a digital cable box (Scientific Atlanta 3500HD series)
So, what to do?
First, in my ATI Catalyst software I'm giving options to setup as 480PAL or 580PAL (I think this is it) and so on all the way to 1080iPAL. If I choose 1080iPAL then my desktop goes off the screen and I can't get to my start icon etc...and everything is so small it can't be read. So should I just stay with the 480?
Next, what should I set my screen resolution to? or is this the same thing as above?
If I forego the digital cable box and run the cable straight to the WinTV card then I can get a picture and sound, but the sound is horrible...sounds very metallic and garbled but can be fixed somewhat by going into the sound options and changing the scheme from default to something like a "Living Room" it improves the sound but it still is metallic sounding.
If I use the cable box then I get no sound at all...should I run a separate sound cable over to the WinTV card from the cable box?
My plan all along for this was to create a decent HDTV PVR with maybe a dual tuner capability so I can watch one show and record something different...but right now I'd like to just get this thing up and running....so, I guess my questions are what resolution should I set this too so that everything will fit on the screen and I can still watch HD shows, and how to fix this sound problem for now.
Thanks.
