please help!
im running athlon xp 3200+
768 mb ram
windows Xp pro
After my computer crashed one day, I rebooted and it said it was missing the windows/system folder or something and would not let me go into windows. not even safe mode.
I used the repair console in windows xp to chkdsk and repair etc (wasnt really sure on what to do)
After that the system boots up but there are 2 options for OS to load. the top one was blank and the 2nd one was winxp professional. I've tried both of them and theyre the same when i try to get into windows. When i clock my profile to start windows, it says that It cannot find my profile and settings and instead are loading me onto a temporary one. I found all my files (program files, stuff from my old desktop) everything in my profiles name on my windows drive but it cannot load into it. What should i do? Should i just create a new profile if i can? system restore does not work as well as all restore points have been erased. if all else fails i guess i can format. Any ideas on how this happened?
thank you so much for your help guys...

It **MIGHT** be possible to do the following - but, I would clone/ghost what you have at the moment, just in case.......

Create a user account in the same name as your old one.
Copy everything over in the windows\documents\settings\old username folder to wherever the windows\documents\settings\new username folder is now.
If it is in the same folder, then this won't work. If the repair installed to a different windows folder, then it **MIGHT**.
