I'm no expert on this, but such last second bidding is called "Sniping." And, there are software programs that can assist in doing this. Here's but one:

Try to contact a buyer and purchase from them.

Are the prices for the Buy It Now increasing?
If so, the price may be being artificially manipulated.

It's "specific" and "rare" but "different every time."

But you referred to it as a singular item in your first post. Little confused here. Is it an antique or something?

omg just go to the apple store and buy a new one. :D Seriously though, how can something be rare if it is being replaced by anew model. Rare things dont usually get product refresh cycles.
