DannyLove- how can you suggest that game in an anti-stress thread...it's sheer madness!!!

On a more serious note; although I can't honestly say "I've been there" because I've yet to reach the age where I have to deal with every one of those things, I find that sitting down and playing an easy game against the computer is really relaxing. Just my thoughts.

<< I stay up alot at night wondering what the hell I will I do if a HDD failed >>

Windogg, you have a responsibility to point out potential areas of failure and how they can be overcome. If those in charge decide not to spend the money, after you have clearly spelled out the risk, that is up to them. You shouldn't worry about it, let alone stay up at night! Yes, you'll have to fix it, and you'll get hassled about how long it's taking. But to worry about it even before it happens? That's for the owners to do, not you.

Same goes for RAID, a UPS, tape backups, or any other item. You have to point out the risk, and the cost of dealing with it. After that, you're done.

Believe me, I know exactly what you are talking about, but I eventually realized I'm not the owner, and truthfully - if the whole system burst into flames today, I'd do my utmost to put everything back together as quickly as possible, but at the same time I would not be worried about it, nor would I sweat it out. My job is to identify risk and to propose solutions. Those above me decide which risks they are willing to take. After that, why should I worry? I've done my job and more.

another way to relieve stress, add counterbalance to points, think bridge builder.... if something is strained, saay your sleep time. don't post, try melatonin, it's pretty natural, or a turkey sandwich, and milk, or stand on your head for 20 minutes.

Exersise and all the others suggestions are good, but that doesn't solve the problem. You must do something about the reasons for the stress. I was stressing constantly for several years until I couldn't do it anymore, I also had rashes sleeping problems and got depressed. I got really apatic for quite some time, until I finally took a good look at what caused my stress. In my case, all that stress was really for nothing, since I wasn't working more efficently or got more things done, I only spend more time worrying. I won't ever put myself in that position again.

Bakwetu has a point. Take a look at what is causing the stress. Is it really worth stressing over? Windogg you said you were worried about what would happen if a HDD failed. Make up a plan of action as to what you would do. Then you won't have to worry about it. You might also make up a list of what's stressing you. Tackle each problem/stressor one at a time. That way it's not a mountain but a series of small steps.

"Pressure is healthy. Once you reach the point where you are unable to cope, then you enter the stress arena."

Wow Windogg, be careful! Same thing happened to me - I couldn't sleep, I would actually break out in hives all over my body and I have panic attacks where my heart would beat so hard I could actually see my shirt move and then it would beat really fast for a while. I worry about things at work all the time. I ended up having to go to a Cardiologist and having a bunch of blood work done. I have to take a Beta-blocker now (which actually helps) but they think that something is wrong with one of my valves in my heart due to all the stress. So I say take everyones advice, go to the Doctor, exercise, keep caffeine to a minimum and take a vacation - a long one and don't take your laptop with you! ;) Good luck and I hope you feel better. :)

Understand that when a guy picks up a case attached by the cpu, feel sorry for him being so stupid instead of getting angry at him. Laugh at everything instead of getting mad. Go the speed limit or 5 mph under it on the way home from work, take a different route even. Go for a walk.

Enjoy the little things in life and realize that some of the bad things are only metal and plastic. Have fun with your co-workers.
