Hi first time poster

Full specs: MSI Z68a-GD80
i5 2500k
Gtx680 Asus
Hitachi Deskstar 1tb (boot)
Kingston SSD 120gb (games)

So last night I shrunk my HDD partition by 100gb, intending to dual boot W8. Never got round to installing it, but when I turned on my PC tjis morning it won't boot. It shows the manufacturer logo then goes to a black.screen with a blinking underscore

I decided to try putting in my W7 disk in to repair, but it starts loading windows files then gives me an error about not bring able to communicate with a device. 0xc0000009 I think. I thought my HDD might be the issue, but it does it also when my HDD is unplugged and just my SSD plugged in

Worried my PC is bricked at this point cause I can't boot or repair from disk. Advice appreciated!

Searching Google for Error Code 0xC0000009 finds a lot of links to possible solutions, including some on Microsoft's support site. You may find your answers, there. With luck, you'll find one of their online fixes that will repair the problem.

Since you aren't sure if that's the exact error code, if your actual error code is different, substitute that in the search window.

Good luck. :)

If shrinking your partition is what caused this, I'd start with some utilities and see if something went wrong with that process. There are ways to fix it...

Think of it like this...all your data is on a file system, which is stored on a partition. The partition is defined in the master boot record. If you resized the boot partition, chances are, the fix will updating your MBR with the new partition size. It's been about 7 years since I've had to do something like that so I'm not sure what utlities are best for reading the data to assess if you have any mismatches in partition size vs MBR data.

What program did you use to shrink the partition? I would try the repair option again, but this time with only the Windows hard drive plugged in. Unplug the other one for now.
