Need help w/ Windows network shared folders

It's been a while since I did any Microsoft networking, but what I want is fairly simple - making a folder shared so that another Windows machine can access it on the same layer 2/3 network.

We have two WindowsXP machines, both on the same workgroup.
PC1: 192.168.0.11/24
PC2: 192.168.0.12/24

PC1 and PC2 can ping each other all day long, but no matter what I do, I can't see & access a shared folder on PC1 from PC2. (by IP or name)

I tried both \\192.168.0.11\ShareName and drive mapping. Neither worked.

Both have Windows firewall turned off.

Any advise?

Check if the Server service is started. Set the Startup type to Automatic.

Accounts without passwords won't work for share folders. Make sure your folder permissions are correct and that the accounts on the systems have passwords set.

Enable netbios over TCP, reboot, wait about 30+ minutes and try again. You have a name resolution problem.

After changing local security policy to allow accounts w/o password, we're now able to access the shared folder.
