:disgust: I've got a problem.. Im not an expers so please bear with my ignorance. I recently trashed a mobo out of a comcrap trying to upgrade form a 350 to a 550 k62.. My bad.. Here is where it gets good. I took it to the shop and had them install a new mobo (ecs.. with a 950 duron.. all the rest of the hardware was from the origina comcrap. Everything is great but I cant install my web cam and am having problems with my printer.. I get a message saying that a file is missing and to install my windows 98 disc and press ok.. Problem is my compaq didnt come with a seperate win 98 disc.. it came with a quick restore that has a lot of other compaq crap on it.. I'm building another comp around an ecs k7s5a and was thinking of using win xp..if I upgrade my 98 sys with xp will it put the missing files in or will i have to get the full version and redo the drive???

The compaq cd contains Win98 on it and I believe there is a way to get the files from there without doing a full restore.

A lot of companies put the windows cd on the hard drive. Usually they located it at c:\windows\options\cabs. If this exists on your computer, then try this: After it asks for the cd, click ok, then instead of browsing to the cd-rom browse to c:\windows\options\cabs and press ok. also some compaies just do c:\windows\cabs try both. if that doesn't work then i think you are SOL. :)
