i need to know how to set the permission to LIST the directories

here's my situation:
Home dir for FTP login is: d:\mp3s, the virtual directory listing would be \

I made a folder that is at: d:\uploads to be under the virtual directory of \uploads

but when I log into the FTP server, I can only see the contents of d:\mp3s... but I want the folder "uploads" to show up too, but I cannot get the folder to be listed, (it is there, because if you manually change DIRs by typing the name in, you can get into \uploads) but it just doesn't show up when you log in so you can't click on the folder and get in there

ne suggestions?

I'm not gonna ask whachu doin with an FTP folder named MP3. But I bet is for some school work right?

Anyway, the way I know is to put all the folders inside the FTP home directory. This way all the folders show when you login to the FTP server.

So in your case I would have made my home dir for FTP, d:\FTP and the MP3 and Upload folders would be d:\FTP\MP3 and d:\FTP\Upload

There may be another way to do what you're trying, but I don't know.

Good luck and don't get yourself in trouble.

well i had that idea before and i know it works...but i think there SHOULD be another way to LINK the folders while not actually having to ARRANGE them like that...
win2000 is supposed to be some really HIGH TECH server and if they can't even make a simple link like that (which most other FTP progs can) i think they seriously have problems

This is actually a bug in IIS that has been around for a while. I am surprised it is not fixed in IIS5. Weird. Anyhow, to get around this, I recommend making a folder called upload or whatever it is you want to call it and then put it in the root of your IIS FTP folder.

This is not actually not the folder where people upload - that folder is located somewhere else.

Read this at support.microsoft.com:

http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q142/8/53.asp?LN=EN-US&SD=gn&FR=0

Good luck!

hmmm interesting... thanx

anyone know how to actually MONITOR live activity for the windows FTP?

Is it me or does windows 2000 FTP seem EXTREMELY primitive compared to some freeware like Jgaa's War_FTP daemon? (i know the creator is gay... but he does make some good software)

All you have to do is have the IMS MMC open, and then go to properties of your FTP server. From there, a listing of who is on can be found. I think it just shows who is on, but not what they are doing. So, yeah, it is weak.

Just about anyone makes a better FTP server than Microsoft. The only reason a person uses it is because it's free and they already have it when they install the Option Pack. Like just about every product MS makes, this piece of software is just passable meaning that it doesn't have any great options, but it will get the job done.

How about using another ftp program like serv-u ftp, or war-ftp, both very configurable, and fairly secure. For your needs, running ftp with mp3s for school work, i think one of these would work :)
