I had XFX which i gave to my brother. They used the classic layout on all the tutorials. My cousin now wants to buy my opty and wont take no for an answer. So i decided to give it to him with its contents all.

Heres where the problem comes in. I want to volt mod the 7900GT's i have in this system for him. I noticed however the master SLI card has a different layout. Theres extra resistors. Can i use the classic volt mod on this? or is it going to be a lot more complicated.

i ment the top SLI card. The one that usually takes control when SLI is activated.

Anyhow i got my answer, its a reflashed 7950GT made to 7900GT.

Yes you can still do it.
Works find but are you sure that the extra little resistor doesn't already bump up the voltage in 3d mode?

I gather you've checked out the 7900GT vmod thread:
http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.aspx?catid=31&threadid=1847758

And the Webpageafied version:

Although it says 1.5v is fine I wouldn't pump 1.5 volts through my 7900GT's.
Max I'd go is 1.45 (which is what I have).

My 7900GT's are basically laying around now that I got my 8800GTS :p

And technically there is no master card in SLI. Both cards can output the signal to the monitor so it really doesn't matter.

I'd do the vmod for the 1.4v (link) then add that extra little line in there (the bottom most line) to make it 1.45 volts.

And please, for the love of all thats holy, please try not to do the memory vmod. Thats the thing that screws up the cards. You can go as high as you want on the core but it seems the memory resistors can't handle the voltage (pieces of sh!t they are :p)

thanks wiz, and yeah the volt is already at 1.4V in 3d mode. Its confirmed back off a 7950, but evga flashed it to a 7900GT and mailed it out on a RMA.

Anyhow i want 1.5V because my xfx did it fine and im on water.
CPU and GPU temps after 30 min torcher on both

those are my load temps so i know i have WAYYYYYYY more room to overclock this girl b4 i send her out to my cousin. :\

Bah... my X2 is going back as my MC.
