Ok, I did them - I didn't have olive oil - so I just used a little melted butter, sea salt, pepper, and some chili pepper flakes. . .shook it up - 400 degrees for 40 minutes was wayyyy too hot for my oven. The leaves were starting to get too brown after 20 minutes - so I reduced the heat to 250 and kept them in another 20 minutes. Needless to say, I was sad that I only prepared 10 of them. They were quite good!
Ok - which veggie should I try next. . .
Califlower
Asparagus
Turnip Greens
other suggestions?
Asparagus, it is the most delicious veggie ever!
I would recommend you start with a 20+ ounce 2+ inch thick steak. Bring the steak to room temperature. Season with some salt, pepper, and a hint of garlic. Rub a touch of oil on both sides of the steak (olive oil is best, but any cooking oil ought to work)
Take your cast iron skillet and stick it in the broiler, heat it up to around 500 degrees.
Take the skillet out of the oven, and place it on the stove, put it on your hottest burner on the hottest setting.
The skillet is hot enough when you can put a drop of water on it and it will sort of dance around a bit before it vaporizes.
Put the steak on the skillet. If it's 2 iches thick, let it sit for 2 minutes on one side. Don't touch it! If it's 1 inch thick, then 1 minute and 30 seconds instead of 2 minutes.
Flip over (tongs recommended), and let it sit another 2 minutes.
Stick it in the broiler
If its 2 inches thick, then at 500 degrees, it'll be med-rare in about 6-8 minutes.
If its 1 inch thick, then at 500 degrees, it'll be med rare in like 4 minutes.
Prepare the Asparagus
Cut off the ends
coat asparagus in olive oil, salt, pepper, and a touch of lemon juice. Place it in heated skillet. Cook 6 minutes for thicker stalks, or 4 minutes for thin stalks.
Put Asparagus on top of the steak.
Mouthgasm!
EDIT: Avoid Brocolli, it is horrible and disgusting. It is one of the few "foods" that really makes me want to vomit. It is vile and poisonous. I would rather eat raw rotting fish eyeballs coated in goats vomit than brocolli.
