Need help using Zyxel X-550 as an access point with a Nintendo Wii!! - Solved

I have my cable modem hooked to the WAN port on my Watchguard SOHO and then an 8 port switch hooked to a port on the SOHO. All the computers hooked to the LAN ports on the switch work fine. I have a crossover cable from a LAN port on the switch to a LAN port on my Zyxel X-550. If I hook a computer to another LAN port on the Zyxel they get an internet connection fine. However, I can't get the wireless connection to work. Any thoughts?

Perhaps I should ditch the SOHO and use the crossover from a LAN port on the Zyxel to the switch?

If I hook a computer to another LAN port on the Zyxel and they get an internet connection fine, then your inter Network connetions are OK and ther is No point to play with cables.

Either your Zxxel Wireless does not work or you configure it incorretly.

May be this can Help.

That's exactly what I was thinking. I need to disable DHCP on the Zyxel correct?

Another weird thing is that I can not seem to enter the Zyxel setup from a wired computer, only from one with a wireless network adapter, although as soon as I disable DHCP that computer can't access the setup menu either. Aaargh!!

I guess I will keep playing with it.

You have to change the IP of the Zyxel to be on the same subnet as the main Router, the DHCP on the Wireless Router has to be disable, but you have to make sure that the Watchguard SOHO DHCP provides IPs to all computers.

Thanks for the help, I did manage to get a computer working using the wireless connection but I still can't get my Wii to work.

So, if anybody else is reading this looking for help on the same topic, here is what I was doing right and wrong:

1) As mentioned above, You have to change the IP of the Zyxel to be on the same subnet as the main Router, the DHCP on the Wireless Router has to be disabled. I had disabled DHCP but had not changed the IP of the router properly.

2) I had set MAC filtering, but didn't notice I had also enabled MAC filtering for wired computers. I just assumed MAC filtering was only for wireless devices. So, every time I enabled it I couldn't log back in to the router from the computer I was working on, duh!!

Oh well, now if I can just figure out how to get the Wii connected, sheesh!!

Edit - Upgraded the X-550 to firmware version 1.3 from 1.2 and now the Wii connects fine.
