Need help understanding an email from my dad (Regarding NTSC/PAL Video Systems)

My dad is in the Middle East right now with some family, and sent me this email.

[KeyserSoze]:

[My Uncle] has a sony digital movie camera that works on PAL TV system.
Will it work in USA? I think our system is NTSC. Let me know as soon
as possible. It is dual voltage but I think it will not record on VCR or
play on our TV. Please check. Call if you need to.
Thanks.

Dad

Anyone have any ideas on this? I don't know much about their Video Systems. Do I have to get more information from him, like a Model Number or anything like that?

Thanx in Advance.

It will not work in the US of A - it's a different format. Although, you should be able to connect the camcorder up to a computer since most video carture cards can accept PAL signals.

The difference is the resolution/aspect ratio. I'm not sure if it will work with US equipment.. if it does, the picture will be stretched/skewed.

I'd tried viewing PAL video tapes on a NTSC television/VCR - the kind of image you get is like one of those scrambled porn channels you tried to watch as a kid 😛

There are mulit-format VCRs. They run about $400. They'll output NTSC/PAL/SECAM from any of the aforementioned systems and convert between all 3 as well.

Sureeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.....as a "kid". Come on, I can see you trying to do that RIGHT NOW 😛

Aighty, so I'll tell my dad it's a "no go". Yeah, I have a TV-Capture Card that will get all signals, but I'm sure they want it for home use.

Thanx everyone.
