need help - unable to use group policy editor in winXP pro

Whenever I try and launch the group policy editor, I get the following error message:

Snap-in failed to initialize.
Name: Group Policy
CLSID: {8FC0B734-A0E1-11D1-A7D3-0000F87571E3}

I read an article on the MS KB that showed how to fix this problem in win2k, but the registry entries that they tell you to change (both the folder and keys) do not even exist in the winXP registry. Does anyone know of a fix for this?

Have you tried using the AD-Users and Computers mmc, selecting the appropriate OU (or domain), hitting properties, going to the GPO tab, selecting the GPO, and then hitting edit? (or add)?

Not a fix for sure, but sometimes AD stuff does under the covers things differently if you come in different way.

Thanks for the suggestion. I actually had already tried that and it didn't work. I did fix the problem though (sort of). Apparently a program that I installed made some changes that windows didn't like, because as soon as I uninstalled it, the GPE worked fine again. Good thing I didn't really like the program anway.
