need help trying to solve a floppy drive problem

okay, short and sweet.

motherboard uses a laptop style connection for the floppy
person I built this computer for wants to put a floppy drive in the system.

how do I do that??
is there some sort of coverter or cable I can use to go from the laptop connection to a standard floppy connection??

please help me if you can - I'm stumped!!

Take a look at this one: Directron

It looks like you could plug the "special" end into the motherboard, then plug a regular floppy cable into the adapter and plug the other end of the regular floppy cable into the drive. You'd want to insulate the adapter so it doesn't ground out on case metal. HTH 🙂

Mech - you are the man 😀
fast answer - thank god for that

one thing though, I notice in the picture that on that board there is a power connector as well - do you think I'd need to use that as well or just plug the floppy cable in and run the drive like normal??

thanks for your help

I think you would use the power connector when using this adaptor to connect a "normal" motherboard to a laptop-style floppy drive, where presumably the laptop-style floppy drive gets both power and data through the ribbon cable. Since you'll be doing the opposite direction, it seems logical that you would not use the power plug. I didn't notice that until you mentioned it, so I'm glad you noticed it 😱
