Need help troubleshooting

Ok, I'm getting some flickering and losing video while watching movies lately and I'm not sure what the culprit is. I am playing the videos from the PS3 which is connected to my Onkyo receiver via component, and that is routed to my TV via HDMI. The ambient temperature in the room is cool enough to warrant a long sleeve shirt, so I can't imagine anything overheating. I've had this setup for around a year now without any real problems until now. Could it be one of the cables? I also noticed twice when loading a DVD that there is a small blue box that shows up sometimes, even in the menu. The box disappears when I exit the DVD, so it is only showing when I watch DVDs. Also if the screen starts to flicker bad and I stop playback, the screen goes blue like I lost signal. I can hear myself navigating the XMB so I know the PS3 transitioned correctly. And since I hear audio, the receiver appears to still be functioning... just no video.

Couple new HDMI cables?

If you haven't done it already, the first thing I would do is disconnect and reconnect all the cables and make sure that they're not loose.

I'll do that. The only thing, and the thing that really worries me the most... It isn't consistent, and it rarely happens right when I turn everything on. Suggests overheating, but it didn't do this during the summer...

can you take the receiver out of the mix?

If the problem goes away, that only eliminates half of the potential culprits without anyway to determine if it's the receiver or the cable still. I don't have any reason to believe it's the PS3, and video is the only thing disappearing. The video port on the PS3 is crappy though so... who knows. I'll try everything.
