Need help troubleshooting a dead system

I built a system for a friend that lives out of town awhile back, and he is having issues with it. He was watching a video file and the screen went black and he got noise from the speakers (like when a system locks and you just get the last tone that was playing)

The system is:

a 9800 pro (Retail)

CASE ANTEC| MID SLK2650-BQE RET
Athlon XP 2600+
MB SHUTTLE|AN35N-ULTRA RETAIL
DDRAM 512MB|64X64 PC-3200B 8T
FDD 1.44MB NEC|FD1231H-302 OEM BLK

LOGITECH Z-640 5.1 70 WATTS SPEAKER


When he turns it all fans spin, LED's light, fan on processor and video card spin, but nothing else happens.I'm not sure if the hard drive spins up or not, but he gets no video at all. I can't make it to see him for a bit, and just curious if there is anything I am not thinking of that I can have a noob do over the phone

I've got one of those mobo's and I don't think they do the beep code thingy. I may be wrong, but mine doesn't even beep on start up. I bring this up cuz a noob CAN listen for beep codes.

The only other thing I can think of is having him look to see if the fan on the 9800 pro is spinning.

I assume you don't (or he doesn't) want him working inside the case.

Yep, I had him check the 9800 pro fan, and thats about the limit of what I want him doing in there. It doesnt seem to beep any code so I have no idea if it is ram, proc etc, which really sux. I'll check the documentation though.

If he has another video card have him swap them out. My 9800 Pro died on me in this fashion.
