I currently own a Sony dcsp-032 cybershot. It got 3.2 megal pixel. It got a 3,2x digital zoom but no optical zoom(i found this quite annoying because i cannot zoom to take some pics( i can but i have to lower my res to VGA like) and this is why i wanna "upgrade" my digital camera.

I got 2 question tho.

The model i want to get now is the DSC-P73 .It got 4.1 megal pixels a 3x optical zoom( woohoo) but only a 2x digital zoom. Here are my 2 questions.

1)What dissavantage will it give me by having a lower digital zoom? Can it affect my picture quality?

2)when i take some pictures in darker area,my pics tent to be a bit pixelated. Will the 4.1 mp help improve that?

thanks in advance if you can help

1)None

2)yes and no

One question for you, what is your budget?

The DSCP73 is around 250 If Im not mistaking. A better bet would be the canon a75 for 199, or a85 for 299. If you want to stay with Sony get the DSCP100 for 350. Its a great camera with a Carl Zeiss lens rather then that sony crap lens, as well as awesome lithium ion batter life. A lot smaller too.

I do agree i can get a better MP for about same price by getting something else than Sony brand. But i wanna stick sony to just dont trouble myself switching also my memory stick. The dscp100 is very nice yeah, but kinda too expensive.I want to put MAX 150$ dollar more than what i will get for my dscp-032.If i can get $225( canadians fund ) id be happy(i also got a 3 years extended warranty to go with it )So my budget will be around $375 CAN considering i sell my cam 225

I also dont want to switch brand since im used to sony camera and both seem to work the same way

Ignore all specs regarding "digital zoom"

(you can "digital-zoom" 1000X once the image is on your pc.... (kidding! digital zoom ONLY degrades quality))

I'd also recommend Panasonic. I have their FZ2 and I love the 12X OPTICAL zoom with Image-Stabilizer.
I bought that model on close-out 6 months ago, so you're not likely to find it. But I know Panasonic has newer models -- with the same quality lenses, big-zoom, and image-stabilization.
Bottom line -- consider any Panasonic w/Leica lens.

This man is a genius!

My 2nd digi-cam was the Lumix FZ1 2mp 12X Optical! I abolsutely love this thing! Cheap SD memory, Video with audio, awesome zoom = great at the beach and taking unsuspecting pics of things/people from far way.

I also like Fuji's cams as they provide really vibrant color capture.

3X optical is not enough, look for sumin with at least a 4x -6x, no use in getting anything over 8x if it doesnt have image stabilization.

You'll end up with a DSLR at the end of the road anyway.. might as well get it now!

OK disregard my post. 😛

What is your ISO set at when you attempt these pics? With point and shoot cames such as this one, you are not going to get much better if you are still shooting at an ISO of 400. You might get a LITTLE better of a picture...but it will still be quite pixelated. You'll need to shoot at an ISO of 50 or 100 to not notice it so much. Any higher on those type of cameras is going to degrade the picture quality.

I think "pixelated" is not the right word here. What you mean is probably "granulated" or "grainy". As pyonir mentioned, it's probably your ISO settings. Most P&S cameras, even prosumers cameras like the G5 or G6 will become grainy at more than 200 ISO.

As I said, the only way is to go D-SLR 😛
