System:

i7 920 batch 3841A
asus p6t (non-deluxe)
ocz platinum 6gb pc1600 7-7-7-24 ddr3
TRUE air cooler
2 gtx 280 in sli
750Watt PC Power and Computing
2 300gb velociraptors in raid0 for OS

BIOS (3.6GHz passes 8 threads prime 95 for an hour - small fft):
all defaults except:
CPU Ratio=Auto
Speed Step=Enabled
Turbo Mode=Enabled
BCLK=180
DRAM Freq=1443MHz
UCLK Freq=2887MHz
QPI Link=6496MT/s
CPU Volt=1.30V
QPI/DRAM Core Voltage=1.35V
other volts on auto

DRAM 7-7-7-24, 1.64V, rest auto

c1e=Disabled, rest enabled except A20M and c-state

HT enabled

Ok, so works fine for 3.6GHZ (or close to 3.8GHz when Turbo mode kicks in).
Temps at load are 71C.

Now I try to raise BCLK to 190 (3.8GHz, 4.0GHz turbo) and small fft gives
me blue screen. 10 min or less.

Tried:
Disable cpu spread spectrum
up CPU pll volts

Neither helped. Any ideas? Running memtest now to see if it's cpu or memory.
Temps at 1.35V were too high for my liking (>75), so want to fix it some other way then
upping CPU volts.

Anyone?

Been running prime small fft with no turbo and bclk=190 for 3.8GHz for 15min so far. No problems. Echo.

use the 19x multi and get 4ghz that way, or use the turbo on with 21x multi

i7's overclock better on an odd multi.

4ghz requires more than 1.30 and probably more than 1.35, which is where you run into temp problems.

It'll probably be stable at 1.40 or 1.45 but your cooling isn't going to get it done.

Try the multi, I haven't had much luck with it, nor do I suggest you use turbo when trying to hit anything above 3.6.

Going to try 4.0 Ghz no turbo, then 3.9 GHz no turbo. I have a felling I will be at 3.8 GHz for 24/7 use which I couldn't be happier with.
If 3.8, I will see if I can drop the uncore voltage and stay stable. Any point in OCing memory RAM in x58?

Ok, 4.0GHz is a no go with 200 BCLK and auto ratio OR 210 BCLK 19x ratio. I really dont think it's worth it to see if 3.9GHz is good when 3.8GHz is so stable. I am going to conentrate of reducing voltages as much as possible and tweaking DRAM. THEN, I can enjoy this thing! :)

Mmmmm crysis.
