hey,

I'm taking apart my girlfriend's computer so that I can salvage some of the hardware and use it to upgrade an older computer of mine.

My older computer has a "Matrox G450 Dual Head 4x AGP 32MB G45+MDHA32DB DB15" video card

Her computer has a card that I cannot find any information on. The heatsink fan has a sticker on it, that says "nvidia NV-1017"

Anyone know anything about it?

Put it into your computer, install Nvidia drivers, go to the device manager and see what it says for the display adapter.

I hate to say this, but I don't have windows. I've been using linux for about a year and a half. I can plug it in and use knoppix and dmesg to find out what it is, but I can't use those tools to find out how powerful it is. I guess I could compare glx-gears running on each one of them.

From google I saw a fan with that number called a GeForce 2 & a GeForce 3.

So either way, nVidia's unified driver will cover it.

I think he is trying to decide if he should use the new video card or stick with his old video card for better performance.

well, now that I finished building the computer, the knoppix cd won't boot up. The Bios says that it recognizes only one of the four hard drives that I connected to the motherboard. I'll have to do some research to fix this, and then get back to you guys.

Thanks for your help.

Make sure your power supply is powerful enough to run that many hard drives.

I'm not having any luck here, so I'll just describe the situation here...

I've got a 320W Power Supply and four hard drives. I've been able to get two of the hard drives detected by the bios, but no luck on the other two.
I'm using two IDE cables from the motherboard, and another two IDE cables that are coming from a pci card.

Here's a diagram of my setup so far...
________________________________________________

--IDE-Begin--------------------------IDE-End--

...mobo.IDE#1----------------------->cd-drive (master)
.............................................\------>dvd-drive (slave)

...mobo.IDE#2------------------------>hdd#1 (master)
.............................................\------->hdd#2 (slave)

...pci IDE #1--------------------------->hdd#3 (master)

...pci IDE #2--------------------------->hdd#4 (master)
________________________________________________

hdd#1 and #2 are detected, but hdd#3 and #4 are not.

Gawd I love their unified driver system. Brilliant! It makes video drivers SO easy (in Windows, at least....).

Are you sure all the hard drives are spinning up? Try only plugging in one at a time and see if detects them then.

they are turning on and the mother board detects them, it just doesn't recognize them.

I can see them in knoppix too, bu knoppix isn't able to mount them or use them.
