need help to block my wifi

Hi Guys
I need some help please, at my house I have 3 computers, one gaming machine, one daughters machine, and one laptop.

1) gaming = my computer
2) daughters = homework and goofing off with girlfriends with instant messaging
3) laptop = wife, daughter, or me just web surfing nothing serious 🙂

so, I have a typical wireless router that I currently use in my house so how do I not allow
my neighbors to tap into my wireless router and enjoy a freebie ride 🙂

The reason that I ask is because I use "Trend MIcro PCcillin" (antivirus/firewall) well, yesterday I looked under the Networking-Options and I selected Wi-Fi detection

and now I get a pop-up showing me two unknown IP-Addresses that are conncected to
my network, however, only my daughters computer is still on.

What do you suggetst?

Try this.

check your AP's association table to find who/what is connected. Setup mac filtering to only allow your 3 mac, and turn on encryption of some sort (even wep 64 keeps most folks out)

Actually in the MAC filtering, you only allow the MAC for your wifi NIC, ie only the laptop, not all 3. (Well, that's assuming the other two are desktops and hardwired)

What you can, and should, do is:

1. change the SSID from the default

2. disable SSID broadcast

**for most people 1 and 2 are super easy and "good enough"

3. use MAC filtering - as stated above

4. use encryption - WEP is better than nothing, WPA is prefered

Enable a strong WPA key, set all your machines to use that key and you will be good to go.
