Hi guys,
I need to backup my windows 7 OS.Other than cloning my hard disk, is there any way to backup my OS ?? I have no windows installation CD. So if any thing happens to my system and if does not boot what should i do ?? I have backup of all my files in dropbox. So i need only to backup just my OS. And also my system has no USB boot capacity, so preferably i have to create a live CD containing my Windows 7.
Thanks in advance. This is my first Post. Please help me !!!!!

Thanks for the reply...
I am new to computing, does creating disk images means creating something like Windows installation cd ??

You can not create an Installation CD from an OS already Installed.

If you computer came with Win 7 pre-installed and No original CD contact the computer manufacturer they usually offer a real cd for small fee.

BTW, making an Image and then Re-installing from it takes a fraction of the time than reinstalling fresh OS configure it to your liking and transferring all the Files back.

What is wrong with a cloned disk? It is the easiest and simplest way to restore your system in the event of an error, or for troubleshooting.

You can get a Win7 CD from any number of places, even an OEM (Dell, HP, etc) would work to reinstall the OS from scratch... you should have the OS license number somewhere on the machine if you needed to reactivate it. I have something like 4 Win7 disks alone lying around the house (along with 3 XP disks, etc...) You would need to match the disk to your OS license, though... i.e. W7 Home Premium, W7 Pro, etc.

Personally, and this is what the others are saying... is develop a backup method for your computer. I use Acronis and make a backup image of my OS drive every night (3 separate images, actually, across 3 different drives.) I have had my OS drive crash... and the only thing that saved me was those backup images. I installed a new drive, mounted the Acronis image... and was back in business in 20 minutes.

The advantage of a backup image is you have a copy of your current OS and your data. No need to go through installing and setting up the OS from scratch in the event of a drive failure.

If you are interested in something like that, let us know and we can explain further... 🙂
