The system is running win98se and all of a sudden after starting the computer one day it gave the error message

" While initializing device NTKERN; Windows protection error. You need to restart your computer." So I tried going into safe mode but no go there, it just hangs at the windows splash screen. Anyone know what the problem is and how to fix it?

NTKERN is a Win NT/2K system file. Try booting up with a 98SE boot disk and type "sys a: c:". That should replace the system files with 98SE files.

Thanks for the reply. However I just went over to microsoft's page and found out that the error message that I was getting was related to RAM. So I cracked open the case and started to play around with the memory order and all, and found out that Memory Bank 1 was the problem, it was defective. So now i'm using memory bank 2+3 instead of 1+2. The board is old and there's nothing I can do about that
