ok, and here i try again...

i have an SMC 4-port barricade router. There are 2 desktops hooked up to it. When i enable DMZ, i can send files through DCC on IRC but, thats it. I still cant send on AIM or MSN and now whats really bugging me, I can't do voice on MSN messenger or net calling.

below are links to 2 pictures taken from my router setup to give you an idea of how things need to set up...

special apps: here

virtual server: here

i have seen the special applications port list.

here is what i need to do...

get it to where my FTP will work...
to where i can send files through AIM and MSN...
and fix it so i can do voice over MSN

apparently on this special applications port list page it lists all the ports of select internet apps and here is something else im not getting, for example: when it comes to AIM talk it says "AIM Talk: OUT TCP 4099"
some of these have "in and out". where, well do i enter in and out? there are no "in and out" fields in my router config. this is really giving me headache, and anyone who takes the time to read this and help me out, is swell. i appreciate your time! thanks! -dave

first,
if you want some help, rule number 1 is DONT B!TCH ABOUT PEOPLE HELPING/NOT HELPING YOU.
it is not our job to help you, so be grateful IF you get help at all.

second,
these problems are inherent with sharing your internet connection. deal with it.
to get around these problems, you can stick a second NIC in the machine you want to use and connect it to both the internal (192.168.x.x) and external (internet IP) networks. this works great if you buy a hub and wire like this:

coax -> cable modem -> ethernet cat5 -> 10/100 hub or switch (uplink port)

10/100 hub or switch (normal port) -----crossover-cable----> router "internet" port -> router -> internal ports ----> machine you want to connect, NIC 2, ip 192.168.x.x
10/100 hub or switch (normal port) -> machine you want to connect, NIC 1, ip x.x.x.x assigned by ISP.

however by doing this you lose all the protections of the router, but only for the one box that you connect this way..
