Need Help shopping for speakers

I just got a new reciever. My old reciever died, a 2 Channel Stereo reciever from AKAI. So anything is a big upgrade.

I bought a decent 6.1 Dolby Digital Reciever. But the problem is now is that I need more speakers. I currently have 4 fairly good Bose Speakers, retailed for $350 each when i worked at CC I got a HUGE discount. I need 2 more Centers and a Sub. Any Suggestions?

I'm not looking for the biggest and baddest, but I'm looking for something that has a decent sound to it for low cost. Right now I am extremely Po, so I may start with 1 center and the sub till I have enough money to buy a 2nd center.

just an fyi...polk still has the "spend $399 and get a free powered sub" promo going...I dont know what your price range is, but that might help you out.

you really should get the exact same model of speaker as the bose you currently own.

That will give you left, right, center, two surrounds and a rear.

Or you could use the four bose as L, C, R, rear and purchase two bose surround speakers.

I already have the Left Right, 2 rears. I'd like to go bose just cost is my main issue, just checking on how much a decent pair will cost me... My just have to go with Bose and spread it all out over 3 months or so. Should keep the woman off my back 🙂

a little information for you.

5.1 has left, center, right, and two surround speakers mounted directly to the side of your listening position.

6.1 adds an extra "rear" channel but there are very few 6.1 disks out. It really isn't necessary but can add a little for panning effects, etc.

Sony's WM40 sub is a good performer for the money.

go to ecost and get a pair of Wharfedale Diamond 8.1 anniversary for 100$ and use those for your mains (fronts).. use the bose for the rest

You really, really, really should use identical speakers across the board for best results.

Though I dispise Bose, I'm siding with spidey on this one. Definetely stick with matching speakers, especially across the front... even if they have to be Bose 😉

Howard, LOL 🙂

Cut your losses, get rid of the Bose get something like Alphas.

Otherwise you are stuck with Bose forever, and that thought is horrible beyond consideration.

the 2 front channel (mains) are the most important component in the speaker package... in movies, the rears are only for surround effects.... in music, the rears arent utilized at all (unless its dvd-a/sacd)... in MOST cases, its best to upgrade the fronts.... atleast way moreso than getting another pair of Bose 2-inch cubes

u dont really need to timbre match for accurate dialog and bullet-effects

True, but I've heard so many poor sounding surround systems because of a hodge-podge of speakers thrown all around.

LOL...only the 2 front. I dunno about that. I would highly suggest timbre matching all your speakers. If you cant do that, your front three should be at least timbre matched. Your center channel does most of the work doing a movie, not your fronts. To get the correct imaging sound you need to have three identical or timbre matched speakers up front.

Accurate dialog is extremely important for a movie...You do not want your fronts to overpower your center because that would lead to muffled sound.
