Need help shopping for Jeep cover

Brother's top on his jeep has torn and his birthday is coming up. I'm planning on getting him a new top but not sure where to shop, besides maybe jcwhitney. He has a 97 black wrangler. Any of you guys know places to get these at a discount? need windows too

I get my Jeep gear from Quadratec.com. A soft top for a Jeep TJ (which is what your bro has) is gonna be pricey... a mid-ranged one is gonna be around 400-500 bucks for a full new Best Top soft top. BTW, don't buy ANYTHING made by Rusty Pony... err Steel Horse.

I've bought a bunch of Jeep stuff from 4 wheel drive hardware. Like Nighthawk said, Bestop are nice units. They also have jeep tops with tinted windows for the new TJ and YJ's but I haven't found any for my CJ-5.

thanks for the tips, he basically has a tear in the top and a window zipper that is fubar'd would a bestop replace a top be an option?

Deffinetly get just the parts you need. If it's just a window he needs the just order a pair of doors. No need to get the whole top. Does he have soft doors or just the window part is soft. IE. The lower part of the door is metal and the window is fabric.

As the others have said alread, stay away from steel horse. Bestop makes the best tops, many of them have additional features or work smoother than the factory tops did too!

I'm not sure if you mentioned if it was a stock soft top on his rig that was ripped? If so, buying parts of an aftermarket soft top for a stock DC one might not be a good idea. You might want to check with your local Jeep dealer.

I would NOT go with JC Whitney. You want to make sure you get a BestTop brand top, they are the best. If you can afford the extra money, the "sailcloth" top is definitely worth it - it is a thicker material, much quieter, and generally nicer in general. I have a besttop sailcloth replace a top on my 99 Wrangler and it is GREAT. The tinted windows are cool, too. I think a fully decked out top (sailcloth, tinted windows) will cost you in the $580-620 range. The regular besttop replace a top will probably be closer to $450. If the jeep sees the highway a lot, definitely consider sailcloth.

As for good online vendors, try 4 wheel drive hardware or quadratec, either are good. You have to compare not only the cost of the item, but also cost of shipping, and sometimes the different online vendors do weird promotions, like free shipping or 10% off all tops, etc. Apparently the besttop prices are semi-fixed, but they can do "specials" to get around the price fixing.

A new soft top is a great thing to add, they aren't really _that_ expensive and the difference in appearance is great.

just talked with him. fabric around the zipper is torn, and the windows are very scratched. He bought this used from a lot and its the top etc that was on it at the time, I believe it was factory original. There is a tear in the top,as well as some damage to the hardware that clips onto the windshield. A friend of his had the hood open and didnt shut it all the way, and when the hood popped up when he was driving it apparantly did some damage.


My mother is actually the one footing the bill for this, im just shopping around. She is dreaming of something around 200 dollars, but I'm not seeing that as much of a reality right now
