need help sharing printer on my college network

Hey, I need to share my printer on the college network for my roommate and 2 friends next door.. Last year we all lived together and shared no problem. We are forced to run Symantec AntiVirus and their Client Firewall. We also all have XP with SP2 .. Right now, AIM File sharing works (8mbs!), we are not allowed access to "View Workgroup Computers" and a search of Network Printers comes up with nothing.

Does anyone know of a way around this?

CLIFFS:

network at college
need to share my printer with roommates (AIM file transfer works)
don't have access to "View Workgroup Computers"
no printers come up in a network seach in Add New Printer
All have XP SP2 and Symantec AV and Firewall
any ideas?

enable LPR/Unix print services on your machine
name your printer something short and sweet
go to roommate's computer, add printer, select type = LPR
computer/host = your IP address or computername (if computernames will work)
spool = whatever you named the printer

See if that works.

thanks drew.. I somehow figured it out (lucky i suppose). The only way I could add the printer was by going to run and typing "\\compname\printername" (no quotes) on my roommates computers.

Doh.

Yeah, that'll do it. For some reason, I thought you had already tried that.
