I just got an Inspiron 8200 with Dell's True Mobile base station 1170. I'm using Roadrunner and I can't figure out how to get this damn thing set up. I've got it all hooked up, the laptop is communicating with the router, but I can't get it to connect to the internet. It seems pretty simple, but I've never done this before and am having some trouble. Specifically, I'm having problems filling out the ISP worksheet, located here. I've contacted RR, but they are somewhat less than helpful, basically telling me to figure it out on my own. For those of you with RR, what do I need to fill out, and where can I find it? Thanks.

I am not familiar with your Hardware, but let try.

You mentioned a Router, Which one?

RR usually uses the MAC number of the Computer?s NIC as password. You have to clone the MAC that is registered with RR into to the Router.

Dell True Mobile 1170. I'm not familar with what brand it really is (I'm assuming that Dell just brands it) So, how would I find this MAC address? Is it physically on the NIC, or can I find it through some other means. For the record, I'm using 98SE on the desktop with the NIC in it and XP with the laptop.

to find your mac address, drop to a dos prompt and type the command "ipconfig /all" It will be listed as "physical address"

Someplace in your router settings there will be a place to enter a mac address for cloning. Without knowing the brand/model of your router it's hard to tell me where you need to put that.

Just keep telling us what is the type of your computers, does not help too much?

You need to describe how the network is connected?

In any case you should start by connecting your Desktop directly to your cable modem, and check if you have a cable service, RR probably will help you if you have one computer connected, they don?t support Network, but they have to help with one straight connection.
