Hello to all my fellow gurus and gurus in training! I'm hoping someone out there will be able to help me get a Wake-On-LAN (WOL) system working. I'm trying to be able to turn on a PC at a remote site, but with my current setup I'm not having much luck. The PC is a Celeron 300 (overclocked to 450, naturally) running on an Abit BH6. Today I purchased a D-Link DFE-530TX+ with a WOL cable included. I connected the card to the second PCI slot on the motherboard, and connected the WOL cable to the motherboard. First problem was that I wasn't sure which way to put the cable to the mobo, there was no indicator. Tried the cable both ways, nothing happened. I turned WOL on in the BIOS before doing this. I am using the AMD magic_pkt utility to do attempt the turn on (which was the only utility I could find.) APM is enabled in the OS. (I'm running XP Pro). Still, nothing happens. Any suggestions?
If you don't have ideas on how to make this setup work, does anyone have an idea for a cheap motherboard/cpu upgrade to make this possible? Preferably a board that you have had experience with using WOL and one that supports the old 100MHz SDRAM as I'm looking to spend as little as possible to make this work. If you need any information I've overlooked, please just let me know. Thanks.
