Need Help setting up small 2 PC network

Ok, so here is the setup....

My machine running WinXP (specs below), and a P233 running win98se. I want to be able to share files, my printer and my internet connection. Back in good ol' bad days of WinME, I was the network ran just fine. However with XP I've run into some issues, 1 the Win98 machine is totally unable to see my XP system, though It can share my internet access. 2 I can see the Win98 machine but browsing it is extremely slow. Moving from folder to folder takes a good 15-20 seconds, file transfer speed seems to be about right though. 3 I myself can not see my system on the network, which leds me to think something is wrong on my machine.

This is just a thought but I think that it may have something to do with the PC to PC USB networking built into my MSI K7T Turbo Limited, possible?

Any thoughts on what the problem may be?

do you have both machines on the same workgroup, ip scheme?! I think win98se defaults to "workgroup" and xp defaults to "mshome". Also under the win98se box make sure file sharing is enabled, client for microsoft is installed, etc.! I hope this helps! Dion

Sounds like a protocol stack & default protocol problem.

XP doesn't install native NBT by default, where Win98 should have. Check the installed protocols on both boxes, make sure the default one is the same on both boxes.

Hmmm......

The subnet is 255.255.255.0 for both machines, my IP is 192.168.0.1 and the Win98 box is 192.168.0.2. Dose that sound right?

As far as protocols go, both machines only have TCP/IP installed and IPX/SPX installed. I'm not sure how you check to see which one is the default though.

Any more ideas?

The protocol binding order (TCP/IP or IPX/SPX):
On one of the configuration pages, you should have a check-box that says: Enable NetBIOS over (TCP or IPX). Make sure that they're the same. Also on one of the pages you should have a check-box which says "Default Protocol". Make sure that one's the same too.
