Need help setting up Serv-U with a Netgear router

Hi,

I think I have Serv-U set up properly, but I'm unable to let users connect via FTP. Someone had mentioned that it might be because I'm behind a router, but I'm just not sure. Is there a setting that I have to change to get this to work?

TIA,

Sal

Need a bit more detail, but...

You are using the Netgear RT314? If so, you have to forward port 21 to the IP you have the FTP server software running on.

search for my username...i have coverd this several times. PM me with questions.

are u running on the standard port 21? or a non-standard port? did you forward the proper ports? if you are running on port 21 and you have forwarded it, did u disable the default "drop packet" filter that netgear sets? it has to be set to forward packet.

if you are running on a non-standard port, things become more problematic with Port and PASV modes. First answer these questions, then we'll go from there.

Yes.. I set up my router with a Telnet client and it's still not working properly. It's got to be something with my router or configuration with the router because a friend downloaded Serv-U and I was able to connect to his computer no problem and his computer had the very same Serv-U settings that I have.

What I don't get is that the IP address that was given out to my router seems to be the same one that's on the Netgear site. Is my IP address something different that this number? When I type in winicfpg, I get one address for the router and then it gives me an address for this computer as it does for my other computers. Is this the IP address that I give out for others to connect to my computer via FTP?

Thanks again,

Sal
