Need help setting up my router.

My buddy john who has a router at his house came over today and tried to make my router secure but he didnt. I messed around with it for a couple hours. I can put the security for the router but than i get no internet for the other computer. I am new to routers my 1st one I need some help setting it up if anyone could help me I would really appericate it.
