hey guys,
I am doing an internship for a local nonprofit organization here in houston, and they want me to setup a sharepoint site that all the interns can access remotely.
well I don't know much about sharepoint. AND, I have only worked there 2 days so I don't know anything about their hardware.
they have the server and a internal sharepoint site setup for the company already.
so the default site is their company site, http://companyweb/
I can create a subweb under their site, http://companyweb/uhweb/
When I set that subweb up, the template is all there and easily configurable for drag and dropping. But they don't want me to do this because if we set it up to enable remote access they don't want their company sharepoint site to be accessable remotely...
so is there a way to configure the subweb to be accessable remotely and not the top level site ?
also, the alternative is to setup a new virtual server,
but I am having issues setting that up too.
I can choose an IP and SSL but don't know what effect these will have...
so I have gone through the steps and set it up without an ip address, and then I goto the IIS manager tool and it lists all the virtual servers, it shows the company server with an IP and SSL and on the right column it says it is frontpage server extensions 6.xxxx
but when I look at my virtual server it shows frontpage server extensions 5.xxx and it wants me to upgrade to the version 6 but I don't know how....
they don't have frontpage 2003 installed on this sharepoint server....
also, when I goto my virtual server address, say http"//uhwebsite/ I get a blank html error page, how do I get the simple sharepoint template on that virtual server and the menu on top from microsoft so I can edit the sharepoint page setup?
any help would be appreciated,
this internship is a learning process, but I want to accomplish this task.
I am going to go buy a sharepoint for dummies book or something similar
thanks
