Hello- I recently came across a HP Deskjet IIIsi with a network card as the only interface. I figured a NIC and a crossover cable was all I needed to run this beast from my box... well it's not working. I installed the NIC and drivers properly, the printer drivers as well, but it doesn't seem like the printer is getting any information from the computer. I can see myself and the printer in the network neighborhood fine. I seem to think I need to do some TCP/IP configuring somewhere, but I don't know where to begin. Also, I noticed that in my network config screen, I can add something called HP JetAdmin--Do I need this installed? It would seem like I do, but for some reason the file can't be found on my windows cd. Is this what my problem is, or is there any workaround? I guess I'm just not as smart as I thought, so if someone could break it down to me, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

not at all. The nic is actually a jetdirect card. You need to download JetAdmin from HP's website, configure the jetdirect, buy a hub, connect both your computer and the printer to the hub, and use jetadmin to install the printer on your computer. Use straight through cables, not crossovers.

You should be fine connecting the printer directly to your computer with a crossover. Just download JetAdmin from HP, have it search your "network" for compatible printers (it should find the IIIsi), then change the printer's IP to an IP on your NIC's subnet, and you should be fine for tcp/ip printing.

How I have setup my home network is having my Epson Stylus 900 installed using USB onto my main PC. Setup the network to sharing in Control Panel, and then from the printers folder right click and setup sharing for it. Then when I have my laptop linked up to the network I can send files to print from the laptop to the printer becuase I have allowed sharing. Also have you allowed everything to be shared between the two computers???

Hope this helped.

Albert.
