Need help setting up a 74 gig Raptor

I bought a used WD740 from someone on the FS/FT forum here. He was previously
running it in some RAID config so that probably has something to do with it. I just
have the single Raptor on a DFI LanParty 250 GB. Drive tests fine under the WD
Windows diagnotics but it shows in Windows as 138 gigs with like 74 used. All that's
on it is Windows XP which I just installed to test.

Only other thing, I tried to test it in DOS and write zeroes to it, but the WD utilities
are crashing before I can do anything with them - presumably something to do
with the error in size....

Reset the CMOS but that didn't change anything.

is your BIOS set to SATA: IDE instead of SATA: RAID? And I assume you reformated the entire disk?

Not sure exactly where the settings you mean are, but I did disable IDE RAID.
I have the size problem fixed now - I must have still had the RAID settings turned
on when I installed XP and it got stuck at that 150 size. I went back and eliminated
that partition and reformatted it - shows the correct 74 gigs now.

Only thing I still don't understand, the WD DOS drive utilities won't load. The DLG
Diagnostics - 4.15 loads but apparently doesn't support this drive, the 5.04C freezes
at the agreement screen, and Data Lifeguard 11 loads to varying degrees and then
freezes. So I can't write zeroes to this drive. Which isn't really necessary but I
want to know why the utlities crash. Other utlities like memtest work fine.
