Need help selecting Cd-Rom drive

My Cd-Rom drive doesn't read anymore all of a sudden. So, I think i need a new one? Unless there is a way to fix this problem, cause the cd-rom drive would open up, but cannot read the cd i put in. So, any suggestions on what course of action to take. To buy a new one...and i need to know which one is the best cd-rom drive...or to fix it, and i need help on that. Thanks a lot.
 
pick up a nice and quiet toshiba dvdrom for 40 bucksa t newegg. Pioneer, asus, ans supposedly lite on make good drives has well 🙂 Also the same for CD-ROMs
 
It might be dead. Sometimes the laser gets gunk built up over the years and can be cleaned with a q-tip and 91% medicinal quality alchohol. You'll have to take it apart to get at the laser.
Might be better to just pick up a 52X Lite-On from newegg for 30 bucks or so...
