Hey all I'm looking for a good AM2 motherboard in the sub $130 range. I don't need OCing I just want something stable with no glaring faults that isn't picky about ram. I've tried to do a bit of research but it seems the whole ram voltage thing is making the situation complicated this generation.

Any help is appreciated.

Not sure which current AM2 board to answer your question, however, the AMD 690G boards are soon to hit - very hopefully within the next month - so, if you can wait, it'll probably be worth waiting for them...or at least waiting for the reviews you'll be able to see in the next week or two, that way you can see if it's worth waiting for.

If you can't wait, then I hope you do get some responses here to help you out...

I wouldn't go for the MSI K9N SLI series. I own one myself, and I've been less than satisfied with it. The NB cooler is too small and runs extremely hot, and its got some unstable quirkiness to it. Even after I replaced the tiny MSI NB cooler with a nice Swiftech, the instability is still there.

Thanks for the info I hadn't looked at these yet but it's good to know.

Anyone have any experience with this board?

I have this board runing an X2 3800+ with a 1gig stick of Patriot eXtreme Performance DDR2 800. I stuck it in a Microfly with a S12 380 and have been really happy with it. Haven't oc'ed it yet as it's just a home office rig for my wife but it does seem to do pretty well in the reviews i've seen.

Passive so is quiet. Stable as far as I can tell. Overclocks like crazy. I've just been using it as a test board, but it's been above 360MHz HTT stable. Yes, THREE hundred and sixty, not two hundred.

However, have only used it with my Crucial Ballistix DDR2-800 and haven't tried my 533/667. Also, haven't actually run it in a system, but only with a live CD and Prime.

If what Gary just said is true in the thread he posted in for the 690G preview, I with regret withdraw my recommendation for waiting for 690G.
