I am getting ready to purchase a new laptop and I'm not sure what processor and video card combination to get. I don't want the most expensive setup but want something that will play games like Crysis and Far Cry 2.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Robert

Please provide some more details:

What's your budget?

What're you going to use the laptop for?

How big/small of a laptop do you want?

You should take a look at the front page of Anand today as they have an article on the current state of mobile graphics. Might be some useful info for you there.

You may be disappointed in the amount with what you will have to spend getting a laptop to run crysis acceptably.

Buy a desktop + cheap netbook.

I'm looking at getting a Lenovo Thinkpad Edge for school and gaming. Only wanted to spend a max of $1200. Doesn't necessarily have to be able to handle Crysis but would like to be able to play some of the more recent first person shooters.

Was planning on getting a 14 or 15.6" edge loaded with 4GB DDR3, 500GB HDD, i5 2.6 GHz but I'm not sure what graphics card to get with it. Would a 1G Nvidia or a Radeon do the trick ?

OK, ubermods, how about combining these two identical threads?

Crysis runs well on my Radeon 550v gpu. So middle of the road gpus are good enough if you are on a budget.

. . . or closing one of the threads.

I can live with that . . . but since there are different replies, it might make more sense to combine them. I.e., move all the replies to one thread and keep the gaining thread, delete the other.
