Need help - seeking cooling advice

Recently, my AMD 2000+ cpu is getting to temperatures way beyond what it should be. When I play any 3dgame for a good 3- 4 hours, the cpu will reach 81C and I know that is WAY beyond what it should be. The motherboard temperature remains at 33C so I'm not too worried about that. What I'm asking is for some advice on what products/techniques I can use to ensure a cooler cpu. I'm a novice when it comes to computer cooling so if you suggest something, please give a little description of what it is =). Any help would be much appreciated.

Are you using the retail amd heatsink? Have you checked the heatsink to make sure its not clogged up with dust, I did that once with my Alpha heatsink and as soon as i cleaned it out, temps dropped. If its not then you'll probably want to upgrade heatsinks. Thermalright SLK800A and a Panaflo or vantec stealth will keep your comp cool and quiet, might not be great for overclocking but for stock speeds it'll work great. also how many case fans do you have running at the moment?

Also, what mobo are you using? I know my old Epox 8k7a gave me very high temperatures, about 20ºC higher than my current 8k3a+

Yeah im using retail amd heat sink at the moment. I checked for dust and it's not clogged up. It runs at 5400 rpm according to the bios. I am using an Asus A7V333. Well I have no plans at the moment to overclock, I would prob like the ability to do that so a good fan and heatsink is what I would like to get. Also, I run the computer with the case open, and have one fan inside the case for when I do close it.

Are you using the Thermal pad they gave you with the retail heatsink or did you peel it off and put some better thermal compound on it? If you are using the thermal pad putting some Arctic Silver or Shin Etsu compound might bring your temps down some. I know the retail heatsinks aren't perfect so lapping the heatsink might also help out some if you use thermal compound.
