ok, so here's the deal, i just got another computer to replace the one in my room. my old system runs win98 and the new one runs win xp pro. i installed the sbc manager and followed the instructions and everything, but the computer isn't able to connect to get an ip address from the router. it recognizes that it's connected to a computer (all the lights and everything are on) and when i unplug the rj-45 cable from the back of the new computer, it says network plug has been removed. so it knows that it's connected, it just can't connect to SBC. it does connect, however, if i directly plug it into the dsl modem. btw, them modem is a speedstream 5100.
i've made all the settings the same and i can't find anything wrong. i'm wondering if any of you guys have had similar problems with your SBC connections. the modem is a PPPoE and the router has been set to that. the only difference i can find is that in win98 there's actually a PPPoE adapter listed under the network connections and in win xp pro, it's not. if that's the problem, how do i get the PPPoE adapter there? because i don't remember installing it.
i've actually had this same problem with my laptop which also runs win xp pro. i'm thinking my router might just be bad, but it works with my dad's sun workstation and the dell (my current old computer which i'm using to write this post). any help you guys can render would be awesome!
thanks!
