Need help running a DOS program in XP

I am trying to run an old DOS based program. I had it up and running in XP for several hours. I went to bed, and when I got up in the morning it wouldn't work. It only comes to a blank black screen now. What could have changed over night? I have tired using every possible compatability mode with no success. I really need to get this working!! And help would be greatly appreciated. I ran a memory test and the only possible problem I see is there are 0 bytes of available contiguous extended memory. I am not sure how to change or adjust that particularly perameter. I am getting desperate!
