Need Help Ripping a DVD to AVI

Ok.. I have been buying those "Baby Einstein" videos for my daugher, and I want to rip them to AVI so that I can upload them to my XBOX so my wife doesnt have to find them and put them in to watch.

I and not a video guy, so I really don't have any idea what I am doing. I went out and downloaded a few applications, and left it at the default settings and ripped. My outcomes were pretty much the same 64mb rips (they are only 10mins long) but there were very obvious "interlacing" lines and compression errors.

Can anyone tell me how I should go about just ripping the 10min DVD to an avi (or whatever) and get good results?

ok.. what settings should I be going for with AutoGK to get good quality?

AutoGK will adjust the bitrate and the settings for optimal quality, really the only choice you have to make is what size and whether to keep the AC3 audio or compress to MP3. For a 1 hour TV episode, 350mb w/ 128kb/s MP3 audio is more than ample, particularly using the new XviD.

Also, when you rip the program with DVD Decrypter, make sure you select "IFO" mode.

i do the exact same thing for my daughter's videos..

the easiest method i've encountered so far is using Fair Use Wizard. this rips into Divx or Xvid (.avi)... works great.

the freeware will re-encode to a max 700mb file.. the pay version will let you set the size as you will.

i can't speak highly enough about it.

all you have to do is ftp it over to the xbox(or stream it from your PC) and you're in business.
