Need help regarding Ubuntu installation

x86 is actually also an instruction set from Intel, but your processor is 64-bit capable. So you could get either one. I think x86 means 32-bit and then you have 64-bit.

Why do you want to delete vista anyway?

If you really want to, you download the file and then burn it onto a CD. Boot off the CD.

You can run the 32-bit or 64-bit version because you have the right processor. So you can download the i386 installer (32-bit) of the AMD64 installer (64-bit).

You can run the installer from the command line of the CD or by booting into a Live version of the OS and using the graphical installer. The graphical installer is easier, but both of them can repartition that hard drive for you. You might want to read through the instructions on Ubuntu's website. Additionally, you may want to wait another ~10 days for v8.10 to come out (with an updated installer).

Why delete Vista? You can just dual-boot. That's what I do - XP Pro for those few programs I still use that need Windows and Ubuntu 8.04 for daily use.

You don't download to another partition, you download the iso image and burn it to a CD. You then boot from the CD to install. During the install you can either repartition the drive to dual-boot with Vista or install it by itself.

I think I have everything now, except one thing. I really don't know how to burn the ISO image onto the CD. How do I go about doing it, do I need a specialized burning pogram?

If you don't already have cd-burning software (eg, EasyCD Creator, Nero Burning ROM) then try this.
