As i told above its IDE, and config is Intel P2 2.4Ghz, 1 gb DDR2 ram, 945 chipset mobo, Intex 450W PSU, no discrete GPU, 80 gb barracuda IDE.
I ws hoping for it to last few more months before my upgrade.
Hi,
I know the feeling re hoping things will last.
The reason I asked about yr system’s connectivity---I got the optical drive has IDE, but sometimes, an older system has SATA connectivity, but the optical drive is IDE.
I asked with that possibility in mind, thinking, if that were the case, and you had a spare SATA lead and free mobo SATA port, you could get an inexpensive SATA replacement on ebay or like that.
But, if you look on eBay, bet they also have some IDE optical drives in good shape for little money. Assess the reliability of any given vendor by reading the feedback posted.
Just delved, and for example:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEC-OEM-16x...=US_CD_DVD_Blu_Ray_Drives&hash=item3a865bf4ad
Given this thing costs almost nothing, clearly, you would be taking a chance, but the vendor has 100% feedback. You could email him and ask more specifics re condition, i.e. is it tested? What do you have to loose? Anyhow, there are tons of IDE optical drives there, many brands, all pricepoints!
