I have a corrupted WinXP which now fails to load, I can't even get to safe mode or even command line.

I do however believe all (or most) other files on the drive are intact. Before I re-format, I'd like to collect all my old mail, contact list, and even my task list from Outlook 2002 but I have no idea how to retreive or what files to retrieve or even how to utilize the retrieved files in a new installation.

Thanks for your help.

Do you have another computer?

move the hard drive into another computer and get them from there.

Or if youre not running NTFS boot with a 98 cd and copy the files to a diskette or another hard drive (depending on how many emails you have stored)

Default storage folder for most outlooks is:
"C:\Documents and Settings\~YOUR USERNAME\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{6598B800-5D45-45D6-BDE9-595D74A2283B}\Microsoft\Outlook Express"

Hope this helps

OK, thanks for the help so far.....

I have installed XP on another partition on the same HD. I have found a file called Outlook .pst at C:\Documents and Settings\Rob.FFP\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

Should I be able to open this file in a new install of Outlook 2002? Is this everything? (mail, contacts, task list?)

OK, now for extra credit:
If I wanted to take this file home, how would I go about importing all this data into an existing outlook 2002 without losing any data from the existing install of outlook?

Im not sure with outlook 2002, but i know with most other you can just do an import, and it will work with no problems, or else you can just put them back in the same folder.

There should be (well for other outlooks, dunno bout 2002) files with DBX extensions. >> Inbox.dbx, Outbox.dbx, etc etc.

That is correct for Outlook Express, but not Outlook. Outlook uses PST files.

Yes, that is the correct one. Look for an archive.pst in that folder as well (if you have auto-archiving turned on). There should be an option to import your personal folders under File / Import and Export.
