Need help recording onto my computer ..

I want to record something onto my computer but it is WAY to quiet when I record even when I have line in volume all the way up. If I use a program to make it louder afterwards it ends up sounding fuzzy. I'm using the onboard sound on my ASUS A7N266-VM (Nforce). I know the mic works fine 'cause I've used it on other computers.

you don't want to plug the mic into line-in unless it is amplified
see if there are any setting to change the line-in into a mic input or if there is an actual mic input
