Need help rebooting my wife's cell phone...

My wife has an LG VX400 that has worked perfectly until a couple of nights ago. She was on the web downloading ringtones, when all of the sudden the phone seemed to lock up. Now the screen just displays the Verizon logo, and every few minutes the screen turns purple, then back the logo. The keys are non-responsive. The only way to turn it off is to take off the battery. Calling into the phone sends you straight to voicemail. As far as we both know, there is no damage to the hardware.

Surely there is some way to reboot?

Aside from holding down some key combination as you power the phone up (after removing the battery), maybe you can call Verizon, give them your ESN number (they have it anyway...) and maybe they can send a remote wipe/refresh phone signal or something?

Take the phone to a Verizon store?

We did that yesterday. The guy at the tech counter was more interested in getting us to buy a new phone than getting the old one fixed. He spent just a few seconds looking at our phone (he did't hook it up and do diagnostics or anything), and the next several minutes trying to sell us a new one.

Ah I should have known, those fvcking Verizon salesmen. I hope you get it fixed, my dad has had one of those phones for a few years and the thing is built like a tank (dropped a few times and keeps on working)

considering the model and the reactions you are getting from it, i would say you somehow fried the internal memory. I would take it to the Verizon store and just tell them it happened over night or something. Typically, when we see this problem at the warehouse, we cannot do anything to revive it unless you reflash the software into it or replace some hardware.
