need help really quick....my computer keeps freezing up!

anytime i type something into the address bar of IE 5.5, the system freezes up. I ran an antivirus program, which detected a virus and supposedly fixed it. Well i test out the thing and voila, it's fixed. 5 hours later (the computer was not rebooted), the thing happens again. what the heck is going? i know i can get around it by typing the URL in the start/run box, but this is reeeeeally annoying.

I want to fix it asap. Can anyone help me??? I'm begging anyone who can!
 
Do you know the name of the virus? It could be memory resident, and even though you wiped it the thing could still be lurking in your memory someplace.
