need help really quick....my computer keeps freezing up!

anytime i try to type a site into the address box in IE 5.5, the computer completely freezes up. i can move the mouse though, but that doesn't do jack.

this is really pissing me off cuz it just started like 20 minutes ago (i've restarted like 3 times already).

Please help.

Check your System Config Utility, Startup tray to see what programs that is running in the background that may cause the problem. Or, you could try to reboot the system to a good backup copy of registry, also you should download the latest virus scan software to check for virus.

Try InoculateIT from www.cai.com . They update virus definitions 2-3 times a week.

Could be a virus but that may be doubtful. Backtrack and see what you installed or changed since your last working configuration. If all else fails, format and re-install your OS.

1) You could try the repair IE option. Goto add/remove programs in Control Panel. Double click on IE and then the Repair IR button.
2) Mcafee has a free trial on-line virus scan.
Symantec has a free trial Nortan Anti-Virus software for download also. It's about a 24 Meg download though.
3) Assuming W98, Shutdown to dos and run scanreg /fix.
4) Scanreg ? will show you how to restore you last registery files.
