need help real quick. Short question bout DUAL BOOT

OverclockMe

Senior member
Well, I partitioned my 30gig as so 20gig-2k pro 10gigs-98se

So I installed 2kpro first then 98se on the 10gig
I do not see any dual boot optioin, it just automatically boots into 2kpro. So I formatted the 2kpro and reinstalled, but still no dual boot option.

HOW DO I GET THE OPTION TO DUAL BOOT??? with 2k pro and 98se already installed????

Yep, if you install Win98 SE after Win2k, it overwrites the dual boot feature of Win2k. Just install Win98, then 2k.

You also need to repartition your drive for the two operating systems to comply with the 1024 cylinder issue on your hardrive.

you should redo it like..

2 gig = windows 98 os
2 gig = windows 2k os
8 gig = apps
18 gig = stuff... 🙂

that's how i'd do it

dont have it, oh well I guess ill stick wit the basics, thank you to everyone whos helped, I really appreciate it, times like these make me glad I switched over from HWC

If they are both installed, boot off of your 2K CD and do an auto repair, it should get you duial booting.

But, since you've not used it yet, partitioning like bOyA says is a good idea. But, I'd do 4 gigs per OS (with 2K on a NTFS partition) and the rest for both to share as one big apps + stuff partition.. maybe give 2K it's own apps space if you want more file permission ability (with NTFS) but for most people it wont matter.

FYI, 1024th cylinder *may* no longer be an issue with Win2k. I haven't tested it for myself.

As long as Win9x sees the same C: drive as Win2K, that side should be fine as well (no problems with 1024th cylinder).
